Chinese New Year - The Year of the Dragon

Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, is the most important traditional holiday in China. It is celebrated based on the lunar calendar and lasts for 15 days, ending with the Lantern Festival.

This year, we are welcoming the Year of the Dragon. The dragon is one of the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac and is considered to be the most powerful and auspicious. It symbolizes good luck, strength, and fortune.

During the festival, people clean their houses to sweep away bad luck and make way for good luck. They also decorate their homes with red lanterns, paper cuttings, and couplets with auspicious phrases. One of the highlights of the festival is the reunion dinner on New Year's Eve. Family members come together to enjoy a feast and exchange good wishes for the upcoming year. Dumplings, fish, and rice cakes are some of the common dishes served during this special meal.

Fireworks and firecrackers are set off at midnight to welcome the New Year and ward off evil spirits. Lion and dragon dances are also performed on the streets to bring prosperity and good luck to the community.

Another popular tradition during Chinese New Year is the giving and receiving of red envelopes filled with money. This is a symbol of good luck and blessings for the recipient.

The festival concludes with the Lantern Festival on the 15th day of the lunar calendar. People hang lanterns, solve riddles, and watch lion dances to celebrate the end of the holiday season.
